...truly a gem.......30,000 original miles, black plate California car, thorougly rebuilt and restored to show condition. One of the best I have ever seen.
Excellent rust and repair free chassis, nicely painted and detailed during its frame up restoration, rebuilt front end (again, painted and detailed), rebuilt engine (our tests: 140 psi compression in every cylinder, no smoke, perfect oil pressure), essentially perfect body with show quality red paint, all new interior in black leather with matching red piping, excellent top, side curtains, and tonneau, excellent chrome (much of which is new), new fender welting (yes, the car was taken apart when restored), lovely detail work.
Has a new heater, excellent wiring, new exhaust, wherever I look I see new or refurbished parts. Very impressive. A LOT OF WORK went into this car.
We were told this car spent most of its life (prior to the restoration) in dry storage in California, hence the very low mileage. Can't verify this (other than this information supplied by the last owner...who had it for 34 years) but it looks the part. The original (and very desirable) creme faced instruments are very good as are all of the original creme colored plastic switches. The best I have ever seen.
New wire wheel hubs, new chrome knock offs, new chrome wire wheels, new radials and tubes.
Why a Morgan four seater? Having owned one, on and off, since 1974 (and currently owning a 1964 Plus 4 four seater), I find it to be the most enjoyable and most versatile classic sports car in my collection. Quick and fun to drive, easily capable of topping 105 mph, great ride and handling, a great solid feel, and (of course) capable of seating four real sized adults OR a lot of luggage/baggage/groceries.
Cover the back seat with the tonneau and it looks like a two seater. Open it up and take three friends for a ride. Either way, a wonderful classic.
I also love the far more comfortable seats (amazing...adjustable fore and aft AND for seat back rake), the real seat springs (two seaters use plywood under the seat cushions), and LOTS of interior room. Add a luggage rack and, I suppose, four people could actually go away for a weekend in this car (yes, I agree...this is stretching the imagination).
Performance, ease of service, a factory still in business supplying most anything one might need, effortless highway cruising at any reasonable speed, great handling, comfortable, and remarkably versatile. All reasons I have always owned on.
EVEN MORE........this car is eligible for VSCCA vintage racing in the Northeast...simply add racing seat belts, a bolt in fire extinguisher, and not much else (the VSCCA does not require roll bars, fuel cells, etc.) and live one's dream of zooming down the main straight at Lime Rock.
So, in show condition, needing next to nothing to go racing, a great car that can be used in all four seasons, how can ya beat it?
