1962 MG A 1600 Mk II Deluxe (SOLD)

one of only 290 built (some sources indicate as few as 55). Basically an MG A Twin cam but with a push-rod engine, built at the works to use up left over t/cam parts.
Rebuilt original 1622cc high compression engine, 93 hp, twin SUs, 4.55 'competition' (the term used in England to describe the model...'Deluxe' was an American term for the cars) diff, re-sleeved and rebuilt four wheel Dunlop disc brakes (same as an E Type Jaguar), knock off steel wheels somewhat similar to those on a D Type Jaguar, factory mounted oil cooler below front pan and connected with metal lines. All correct for a 'Deluxe.'
Excellent body and chassis, lovely red paint, new tan leather seats and tan interior trimming (including dash covering), tan top and tonneau, good side curtains, new trunk carpets, mostly new chrome and trim.
Accessories: converted to negative ground, stereo/CD, Lucas driving lights, battery cut off switch, back up solid state fuel pump, electric radiator cooling fan, new wood steering wheel.
Runs and drives like new....very 'tight' and with excellent steering, handling, braking, and performance with a top speed of over 100 mph....the 4.55 diff offers sparkling top gear performance.
I wouldn't rate it as a top show car....those cars are never used on the road...but it did look great at a recent Greenwich concours. Didn't win 'best of show' but looked very good amongst the other fine cars, few of which were as rare as the particular car.
Frequently called 'the finest of all MGAs' and a rare opportunity for some lucky buyer to acquire a genuine jewel for his collection.
