So.......the last owner was kind of vague...'alll rebuilt and restored...excellent condition. Rust free California car.' And not much else.
Sounded good so we took the plunge. And this is what we got......
A very early example of the first year of MG B production. Crawled around underneath and took photos...looks pretty close to perfect to me. Couldn't see any signs of repair, no rust, really as represented to us. Fantastic. Especially for a near half century old MG.
Ran our normal tests on the engine...155 psi compression in every cylinder, no smoke, 65-70 psi oil pressure when warm. Considering the carbs look like they were just rebuilt, the engine bay and engine are spotless and nicely detailed, AND our tests are consistent for a freshly or recently rebuilt engine... "We can't promise what we don't know but we can voice our opinions."
Of course another sign of a really good MG is a new (and this is obvious) cloth covered wiring harness. And lots of other new parts evident in the engine bay.
Jacked up the front to peer underneath....front end is spotless, shocks new, and in the packet of invoices we received, an invoice for a complete front end rebuild kit.
Add a fairly new top, excellent interior, new matching boot cover, new paint, chrome, trunk carpeting, very clean dash, gauges, trim, etc.....
A VERY NICE early MGB. Rebuilt (we presume), restored (we can see), and wonderful driving (we have experienced).
