A very early rubber bumper car...October 1974....absolutely rust free, perfect floor, excellent body and paint, very nice (presumably) original interior, and REALLY goes. Well, that was the way this car arrived at our workshop.
No engine rebuilding history BUT we drove it 30 miles to our office and we were amazed at the performance. Feels more powerful than the earliest and highest powered of Bs (1962-1967). No doubt the Weber carb helps. But I would be fascinated to see if it has a cam and a raised compression ratio 'cause it certainly feels the part.
Perfect oil pressue (after 30 miles), no smoke, excellent gearbox, tracks nice and straight, VERY clean engine bay, excellent top, carpeted trunk, full tonneau, stereo/CD unit, this is a beautiful MGB.
Bumpers? We decided to transform this excellent MGB and just finished the work. Which included dealing with some key areas. First, a complete chrome bumper conversion which required redoing metal work, installation of new brackets and hardware, proper grille, and new bumpers and early style bumper guards.
Then, lowering using new early model front springs and lowering rear blocks. Finally, converting to wire wheels with all new hubs, splines, and new chrome knock offs.
And then? Deal with the final esthetics....wood dash conversion and repaint in correct BRG. Not just a repaint on a perfect body with original paint BUT removing a lot of items in the engine bay for a complete color change....engine bay, door jambs, under the trunk and hood lids, everywhere. And now....a low mileage, rust free, excellent running and looking MGB with all of the virtues of both an early and a late model MGB. And under the new paint is a perfect rust and bondo free body.
One of our best MGBs and an ideal car for pleasant weather touring and even all year 'round use.
