Well, we wound up with a freshly rebuilt XPAG engine from a friend's (mildly tuned) vintage race MG TD. Complete with H4 SUs (to MG TD Mk II or MG TF spec), manifolds, clutch, flywheel, etc. And also a perfectly good gearbox and driveshaft.
Reason? The car is being converted into a 'hot rod' with an MGB engine and 5 speed trans. Enuf said.
XPAG engine had seized due, we found, some coolant seeping in through the head gasket. Sold the car, have the engine and trans...for sale.
Engine: we took it apart, found beautifully polished and stress relieved rods and crank. We needed new pistons anyway, bored it 100 thou over ans fitted new pistons...for a displacement of 1346cc. The car was a new Crank billet (nearly $500 from Moss)...their 'hot road' cam...suitable for both vintage racing and road.
Now, together, cam dialed in with a degree wheel and offset key, balanced, head off for inspection, ready for sale. Along with the transmission which was in excellent condition.
