One of the rarest post war MGs, a TF 1500, one of 3,400 built. With the virtues of beautiful lines, rarity, and the most powerful of the T Series MGs. The XPEG 1466cc engine puts out 63hp and more torque and, in acceleration and flexible, makes a noticeable different.
This car was bought by a Boston fellow from a dealer in California. Purchased it around 10 years go, has put around 5,000 miles on the car, now reading 85,000 original miles. Engine is nicely improved with a polished rocker cover and side plate. Perfect compression and oil pressure, no smoke, ran perfectly. Carbs recently rebuilt AND new shocks, recent clutch replacement, all work done professionally and on the road, it doesn't miss a beat.
BUT BEST OF ALL, car had been fitted with an English/German Sierra T9 five speed transmission. These kits cost around $7,000 plus installation and they transform ANY older British car. First of all, faultlessly reliable, all synchromesh, a true 5th gear for highway driving, and (unlike any MG), IF it needs to come out, can be removed without removing the engine.
This is undoubtedly the KING of options. Gee, makes driving an old MG much like driving a new Porsche (granted a bit less power and performance). Coupled to the TFs excellent ride, steering (light and precise), gorgeous aesthetics, wire wheels, hard to imagine a better mid 50s classic sports car.
And, as for the rest, spotless interior, excellent body and paint, very clean underneath, very good top, tonneau, and side curtains, a wonderful 'package' in a classic sports car. And, clearly, one of the best color combinations, BRG with tan interior.
