A rare and most desirable Triumph. Sort of the ultimate 4 cylinder classic Triumph.
Car is truly a gem....virtually perfect rust free body and chassis, show quality (appears to have had partially new paint but much of its paint appears to be original), (let me explain: my idea of a 'show' is not necessarily a national concours, rather a more localized show), same with the interior....appears to be new. Excellent wood dash, perfect dash top, excellent convertible top and full tonneau, even the original boot cover.
Has a luggage rack, new seat belts, jack and knock off hammer.
Has wire wheels with new tubes and tires, excellent chrome, spotless trunk and engine bay, and yes, has its ORIGINAL AM radio that works. (my joke is that, with its original radio, validates it was never owned by a 'kid,').
Spotless underneath, not a speck of rust anywhere. Quite rare for ANY nearly sixty year old British car.
Some worthwhile improvements: a nice set of tubular headers, has been converted to an alternator and negative ground, AND (best of all) has a rebuilt all synchromesh 4 speed transmission with rebuilt overdrive. Clicks in and out of overdrive instantly.....VERY impressive. And the overdrive, of course, essentially provides a 5th gear for easy highway cruising. BY FAR, the most desirable factory options.
Wheels are excellent, all have new tubes and radial tires, top is new and has a new full tonneau cover.
All gauges, switches, and electrics work, runs 75-80 psi oil pressure when at operating temperature, no smoke, a very very impressive classic sports car.
And, not a TR4, not even a TR4A but, rather, the last of the line, the TR4A IRS with independent rear suspension. Disc brakes (of course), 15" wire wheels, and the 2138cc engine is rated at 104hp. Hence, two HP less than the emission throttled TR6s and weighs far less. Of course, aesthetics are personal opinion, but the TR4A IRS does look more classic. And with rack and pinion steering and coil spring suspension, ride, handling, and braking are all first rate.
In a real way, this car would seem to do most of what an AH AH 3000 Mk III does....relaxed cruising at 70-80-90 mph when in overdrive, better steering and handling, and comparable ride characteristics. Easier to service and maintain, less chance of expensive repairs, AND at a far lower price.
The TR4A IRS is fairly rare, making it a dandy car to take to shows. And whether for around town, countryside winding roads, or longer distance cruising. these are wonderful cars.
Of course, we can assist in improving this car....fitting a modern but classic looking digital stereo with bluetooth, adding a modern magnetic induction ignition (no points and no need ever for a traditional tune up), a powerful electric radiator cooling fan (ideal for hot weather use), on board trickle charger,(aka battery maintainer), we can add a 12v/USB outlet under the dash, lots of modern components to bring this car into the 21st century.
Just in, ready for sale, and ready to drive anywhere.
