When Rover (UK) ceased building their SD1 alloy V8, Morgan needed a worthwhile replacement. And Morgan cars had dealt with UK Ford Motor Company for many years, using engines such as the 100E side valve, 997cc, 1340cc, 1500, and 1600cc engines.
So, turning to English Ford, this Plus 8 replacement uses the proven Ford 3.0 liter Duretec fuel injected V6 engine.....24 valves, twin overhead cams....and with 220hp. Mated to a 5 speed trans and a limited slip differential. And with this car, Morgan retained their traditional steel chassis and aluminum alloy body over Belgian ash wood body framing,. And look underneath, still a wood floor (hey, at least it will not rust ad Home Depot can be a source for floor materials.
Disc brakes, wide 72 spoke wire wheels, Pirelli P6000 205/55-16 radials, the same traditional Morgan sliding pillar front suspension, barely changed from when it was first patented by HFS Morgan in 1909.
Car has leather adjustable seats and interior, air conditioning, stereo/CD, burl wood dashboard, excellent fit from its green top (which, incredible for a Morgan, goes up and down in a snap) and side curtains, painted in Connaught green, You might say, lots of goodies.
Performance is rated at 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, and a ridiculously high top speed, with wonderful traditional Morgan handling, comfortable ride, but lets face it.......its all about the aesthetics and in Morgan, you get the kind of car that, when parked in your garage, you take one last look at it before you shut off the garage lights. I know I do.
With only 20,000 original miles, in many ways, this car is close to 'as new' and driving it is truly a fabulous experience. What else can we possibly write?
